Kat Von D Lock It Foundation And Concealer Review

Hello beauties, I am always on the search for the ‘perfect’ foundation and concealer (aren’t we all) and there’s a endless list of both high end and drugstore ones that I aim to try in the new year. The foundation and concealer I will be reviewing today is from Kat Von D’s Lock It range. I have tried this foundation before and actually hated it but that was when it was first released and before I knew about using oils as a base to create flawless looking foundation application. So this is attempt two and my findings.

IMG_1429 (2)

Kat Von D Lock It foundation

Creamy and pigmented, ‘Lock-It’ foundation is the only long-wear liquid formula we can count on to create a perfect canvas. With one pump it will even out discolouration, stop shine and hide blemishes, offering amazing coverage that’s so long-wear you can go a full 24 hours without re-applying. Formulated with proprietary pigments plus an exclusive blend of siliconic elastomers which bind the formula, it will stay flawless, fade-free and transfer-proof. The bottle also features an innovative airless chamber design that prevents contamination, maintains rich consistency and ensures a fresh, precisely measured dose with every pump.

I love the edgy style of this packaging, I expect nothing less from rocker Kat Von D and she has hit the nail on the head when it comes to attractive packaging. The product comes in a sturdy, clear plastic bottle which is perfect for seeing how much product you have left and the colour of the foundation inside.

It has a handy push down lid that dispenses a decent size amount of product which saves product wastage and keeps everything sanitary (it also has a little lid for the dispenser to keep it fresh!). Based on the Kat Von D website this foundation carries a whopping 32 shades, with a amazing colour range to suit many skin tones. You get 30ml of product in the bottle which is standard for most foundations.

IMG_1438 (2)

Once pumped out onto the hand I was reminded how thick the consistency is, it won’t budge or run. As stated above I tried this with a really moisturising base as I have dry to normal skin and like a dewy finish. I started to apply like normal, first using my Real Techniques beauty sponge. This was a complete fail, the foundation was caking and not blending in at all so I moved on to my Real Techniques expert face brush. This seemed to make application a little easier but it dried so quick that blending was almost impossible. I was left with thick dry looking patches on my cheeks, forehead and nose area and that is never a good look.

I decided to try once more by mixing the foundation with a Strobe cream, I needed to use so much of the cream though to make it the perfect consistency for me that it sheered out the coverage to a light to medium which then rendered this ‘full coverage’ foundation useless!. I am so gutted that this didn’t work for me as I wanted to love it so much, so sadly this will be being put in the bin *cries*. This foundation costs £27. Maybe this foundation would work so much better with the Lock It hydration primer and on a oily skin!.

Kat Von D Lock It concealer

Redefining multi-tasking, this ‘Lock-It’ concealer créme is the first formula to bring together everything you’ve ever wanted in a concealer: super-creamy, blendable full coverage and true 24-hour wear. With a few smooth strokes, you can brighten under-eyes, cover blemishes, correct discoloration, neutralise redness, contour and highlight.

IMG_1436 (2)

Next is the Lock It concealer, with matching packaging and a thick plastic bottle, it definitely seems like you’re getting a lot of product for your money (6.25g) which is great since I hate paying out for a stindgy amount of concealer. I love the medium shaped doe foot applicator, it made it so easy to apply the concealer onto my under eye area and blemishes without any dragging. The best thing about this concealer is how thick it is, I do love a thick high coverage concealer and this one was a winner, although at the time of trying it I was very nervous that it would have been just as bad as the foundation but luckily it was the opposite.

This provided amazing coverage and blended out like a dream, leaving a gorgeous brightening effect under the eyes and covering all my blemishes. There was no need to set this with a powder as it dried down very quickly and didn’t crease at all throughout the day. This concealer comes in 20 shades and even has a pure white shade which I think is brilliant. It costs £20. I am so pleased with this and will definitely be buying again!

IMG_1439 (2)

I picked up shades ‘light 46 neutral’ which ended up being to dark for me and shade ‘L3 warm ‘ which looks dark because of the lightening but is actually the perfect shade for me and matches my Mac NC15 shade.

(Apologies for disgusting photo but I had to show how bad the foundation looked on my skin!)

Zoeva Matte Spectrum Eyeshadow Palette Review

Hello beauties, you may have noticed in my latest makeup look post that i have been enjoying using the Zoeva Matte Spectrum eyeshadow palette and wanted to post a full review of it!.

IMG_0842 (2)

A fifteen shade, matte eyeshadow palette.

A collection of fifteen eyeshadows, the Matte Spectrum Palette blends seamlessly for professional results. Inspired by the changing of seasons, this unique collection of highly pigmented colours offers endless possibilities for the creation of vibrant and distinctive looks with every use.

IMG_0851 (2)

Firstly I want to talk about the packaging, as expected it comes in a sleek matte flip box. Although it has a very basic design on the front, it does give a very Luxe and pricey look to it. Sometimes less can be more. I love the snazzy holographic lines against the black matte and even more so the design that’s in the inside. The palette itself is very sturdy.

IMG_0859 (2)

The palette boasts fifteen matte eyeshadows and look at how gorgeous they look in the pans (which are medium sized by the way!) I am slightly disappointed with the shade names as they are hard to remember. The shades included are

• MT010 – A pale cream.

• MT020 – Beige.

• MT030 – Medium brown.

• MT040 – A pale orange.

• MT050 – Orange.

• MT060 – Deep, dark orange.

• MT070 – Salmon.

• MT080 – Burnt orange toned red.

• MT090 – Deep red.

• MT100 – A purple toned light brown.

• MT110 – Charcoal.

• MT120 – Navy Blue.

• MT130 – Teal.

• MT140 – Green.

• MT150 – Dark, camo green.

IMG_0871 (2)

One thing I was very sceptical about was the worry that this palette was going to be chalky as it is a matte palette, but I’m so pleased to say it isn’t at all. The colours are so easy to pick up on the brush with little to no fallout and are very pigmented. I love how easy these are to blend together and think that the colour selection is perfect for creating a multitude of great looks, bold or more natural, there’s something for everyone in this palette.

I am so excited to experiment with this palette, especially in the spring/summer time with the bright colours. If you’re interested in buying this costs £28.50 and you can find it here.

Benefit GALifornia Blush and Dandelion Twinkle Highlighter Review

Hello beauties, I was recently gifted some vouchers for Christmas from family members for Boots so thought it was the perfect chance to pick up two Benefit products I had been lusting after. I was in need of a new blush anyway and hey a girl can never have too many highlighters right?. Today’s review will be on the GALifornia Blush and the Dandelion Twinkle highlighter, both from Benefit cosmetics.

IMG_0923 (2)

IMG_0937 (2)

Benefit GALifornia blush

Benefit’s NEW GALifornia golden pink blusher is part sun, pure fun! It blends bright pink with shimmering gold, capturing the warm glow of California sunshine in a box. The signature GALifornia Dreamin’ scent features notes of pink grapefruit & vanilla. Comes complete with a custom rounded blush brush for soft, diffused application.

Golden pink powder blush

Artwork inspired by vintage California surfer girls

Includes rounded blush brush and mirror

IMG_0941 (2)

First off, I think it has to be said how gorgeous the packaging of this blush looks. With its groovy 70’s style design it is definitely easy on the eye. All of their box of powders in the collection come in a magnetic flip top box that contain 5.0g of product. On the underside of the lid you will find a cute sturdy mirror which is handy when traveling or on the go. Inside of the box you will find a small brush (I didn’t end up using it though) the bristles do feel quite scratchy so I don’t know how great this would be at picking up product. Once you lift up the brush you will see a gorgeous sun print on the front with gold dusting. The dusting is only slightly dusted on top so doesn’t carry on all through the blush. I am completely in love with the peachy pink tone of this. This blush does have a scent and it’s a slight fruity smell of peach. It gives such a gorgeous amount of colour and a natural healthy glow to my cheeks, it was really easy to apply with my Real Techniques blush brush and you don’t need much product to get the desired look. This is on the pricer side for a blush costing £24.50

Benefit Dandelion Twinkle powder highlighter

Get your glow on with dandelion twinkle superfine highlighting powder. Special baked technology delivers a strobing formula for a sheer, whisper-light texture. Wear it alone or on top of your favorite blush or powder and step into the dreamy spotlight.

Quick, easy strobing

Highlighting powder

Signature dandy daydream scent

Dandelion twinkle’s baked technology creates a superfine, whisper-light radiance…a little goes a long way. Dandelion twinkle provides the same number of uses as your other box o’ powders!

IMG_0952 (2)

With a more simplistic design this blush is the second version of ‘dandelion’ which is a blush. This one is their Twinkle highlight, this has a very faint smell of sweets which i find so appealing! The highlight itself is gorgeous champagne pink with very fine flecks of glitter, I am not normally a fan of ‘glittery’ highlights but this is so subtle. I found that the texture is so light and not at all powdery. The only problem I had with this highlight is that is gives too much of a natural look and if you know me then you know I love a blinding highlight. Although I did remedy this by spraying my highlight brush with some setting spray to make it more popping and it totally worked!. This blush costs £24.50 for 3.0g of product.

IMG_0966 (2)

All in all I loved both products and will be repurchasing! Especially the blush. They both look so beautiful on the skin, giving it a gorgeous healthy glow. I really want to try the Hoola bronzer next!.

From Black To Brown With Colourless Hair Colour Remover

Hello beauties!, I recently underwent a hair change from my black hair to a chocolate brown. I love having black hair but having light brown hair as my natural colour only meant one thing, God damn roots!. I decided I didn’t want to use any bleach as I obviously didn’t want to cause any damage to my hair, I have used a colour remover when I had black hair years ago from a brand called Colour B4 and it worked really well so decided this was my best option. However they didn’t have it in store at my local boots so I picked up one from the brand Colourless. Keep reading to see how I got on and my thoughts!.

IMG_0534 (2)

Removes permanent and semi- permanent hair colours. Contains 25% more active ingredients to help remove stubborn build-up and dark colours.

Removes Black, Reds, Browns and Dark Blondes.

  • Removes permanent and semi-permanent hair colours
  • Contains 25% more active ingredients to help remove stubborn build-up and dark colours
  • Ultra strong formula that removes Black, Reds, Browns and Dark Blondes
  • The simple way to wash away your unwanted colour and allow you to be the colour you desire

IMG_0543 (2)

Inside the rather snazzy looking holographic box is three bottles, Bottle A is a clear solution, bottle A is a cream and bottle C is a intense shampoo. You also get a instruction leaflet and a pair of gloves. I chose the Max effect box as I had stubborn black to remove but there is also a max condition version that will improve the condition of your hair. This product doesn’t contain any bleach or peroxide so is safer and less damaging, a  great alternative to going to the salon and paying a fortune when this costs £9.99 for a box that covered all my medium length hair.

Ingredients

Ingredients

Bottle A: Aqua, Sodium Oxymethylene Sulfoxylate, Parfum, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Polysorbate 80, Phenoxyethanol, Glycerin, Hexyl Cinnamal, Chlorphenesin, Benzyl Salicylate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde,
Geraniol, Linalool.

Bottle B: Aqua, Citric Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Glycerin, Polysorbate 80, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Hexyl Cinnamal, Chlorphenesin, Benzyl Salicylate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Sodium Chloride, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Geraniol, Linalool, Tetrasodium EDTA, CI 42090.

Bottle C: Aqua, Sodium Coco-Sulfate, Glycerin, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Bicarbonate , Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Chloride, Decyl Glucoside, PEG-12 Dimethicone , Citric Acid, Sodium Lauryl Glucose Carboxylate , Lauryl Glucoside, Chlorphenesin, Hexyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Salicylate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Geraniol, Sorbic Acid, CI 15985.

IMG_0545 (2)

How to use (from the instruction leaflet)

1.Pour bottle A into bottle B and Shake vigorously for 1 minute.

2. Apply to clean dry hair using entire content. Ensure the hair is saturated with lotion, use comb to ensure complete coverage. Cover hair in cling film and process for 45minutes.

3. Rinse lotion off with warm water for 5 minutes.

4. Apply half of bottle C and massage to lather like a shampoo for 1 minute. Now rinse for 5 minutes.

5. Apply the remainder of bottle C, massage to lather like shampoo for 1 minute. Now rinse for a further 5 minutes.

I have to mention how bad this solution smells, like roses mixed with rotten eggs, it truly is gross and it does linger in your hair after washing, it does however go after washing a few times. I also found the rinsing parts very tedious as I don’t have a shower and had to do it in the bath. Last time I did this however it was in the shower and it was very simple and easy!.

edit

I am so pleased with the results, I took it back to such a lovely chocolate brown colour and I didn’t even need to dye my hair afterwards like I was expecting too!. I do recommend using a hair mask or a conditioner you know is high maintenance as my hair was left fairly dry, but this was nothing that my argon oil didn’t fix.

What do you think of the results? Let me know in the comments below.

L’Oréal Paris X Balmain Color Riche Lipstick

Hello beauties, I am really excited to share today’s review with you all. I love when drug store brands collaborate with high end designers, it’s a great way for us makeup lovers on a budget try out a bit of luxury without the heavy price tag. Todays review is these rather exciting Lipstick from L’oreal who collaborated with Balmain.

IMG_0896 (2)

L’Oréal Paris X Balmain Color Riche is our first limited-edition collection of 12 tailor-made designer lipsticks. Uncover edgy, matte shades encased within an exclusive pack, designed by Olivier Rousteing. 12 lip colours designed to embody three femininities: Safari, Rock & Couture. Lipstick shades for every woman – no matter her origin, no matter her tribe.

The formula is infused with pure pigments and camellia oil to create our richest colour and most moisturising matte finish.

As mentioned above from the L’Oréal website, this lipstick comes in twelve matte shades, ranging from bold reds, nudes, metalics, bolder colours such purples, a green and a blue. There is a shade for every makeup look and colour preference.

Packaging

I picked up two black packaged lipsticks and one green, they also do a blue packaging. I love how its encased in gold detailing which really makes it feel like you have a designer makeup product. With the Balmain name printed on the side in gold text, it is so luxiourous looking. My favourite however is the marbled green, I am a sucker for a marble print and it looks great in a lipstick holder on your dressing table. It definitely looks more expensive then it is and has a easy to use twist up bullet, the packaging is super sturdy which is always a winner in my books.

IMG_0905 (2)

Formula and Application

I originally swatched these lipssticks in my local boots store, even though I have always loved the other color riche lip forumlas from L’Oréal. They are super creamy and glide on easily without sticking to dry patches. The colour payoff is incredible and there is no need to add layers upon layers to get the desired look. They dry down matte but don’t look or feel drying as provide moisture to the lips. As for longevity they did fade off after I had something to eat and drink, however I kind of expect this with a lipstick that isn’t a liquid formula as I find they last longer.

IMG_0914 (2)

Price

They’re slightly pricier then the average Loreal Lipsticks that normally cost £6.99 . These cost £12.99 per lipstick, which is double but that is to be expected for the Balmain name it’s associated with. I didn’t mind paying this as I loved the colours and the formula when I swatched in store. I also took advantage of the 3 for 2 offer they had on at the time (they always have offers in boots in the UK) so got I got one for free!. If you are interested in buying you can find them here.

img_0906-2.jpg

I picked up shades ‘domination’ which is a deep red, ‘fever’ which is a stunning warm pumpkin colour and ‘confession’ which is a pinky nude. ‘Confession’ is my favourite out of the three, as you can see I couldn’t resist using it before I took photos!. It makes the lips look so full.

Lip Swatches

(Please excuse my application of the bottom lipstick, my lips were red from wiping and reapplying for photo purposes!)

I hope you enjoyed this review! Do you think these are worth the price tag? Let me know in the comments below.

Lush Christmas Bathtime Favourites

Hello beauties, I have been loving reading all the ‘What I got for Christmas’ posts and although I don’t plan on doing a detailed one of what I received I did want to do a review on this fab gift set that my boyfriend got me (he knows me well or just thinks I smell haha).

IMG_0665 (2)

I love how creative Lush were this Christmas and loved nearly all of their limited edition Xmas products. This set is called the Christmas Bathtime Favourites and inside you will find nine of their Christmas themed bath bombs!. I love the packaging of this box, especially the purple ribbon that makes it look so fancy. I will definitely be keeping the hat box in my bathroom to store my lush goodies in throughout the year.

IMG_0674 (2)

Sherbet Dip bath bomb 185g

As it’s name suggests it’s shaped just like the sherbet lemon sweets and I think this is such a fun idea!. It has a mouthwatering scent of lemon and contains lemon, grapefruit and orange essential oils and makes the bath water a luminous yellow.

Butter Bear bath bomb 75g

This adorable bear shaped bear bomb is one of my favourites for how soft it makes your skin after the bath. It smells like chocolate and vanilla. However it isn’t very exciting in the water but does make you gorgeously smooth thanks to the cocoa butter.

Snow Fairy jelly bomb 180g

This one I am kind of nervous about trying, after trying the ‘dark arts’ jelly bomb and that being a total fail. The jelly getting all stuck in my hair (was such a nightmare). It smells like the typical bubble gum sweet scent of the Snow Fairy range and it does look really appealing. However I will be using this on a day I don’t need to wash my hair. Fingers crossed there isn’t the same horrendous clean up that I had before. Pray for me!.

Shoot For The Stars bath bomb 200g

I LOVE the appearance of this bath bomb, a bright blue bomb with golden embedded stars. This makes a gorgeous blue explosion and leaves magical glittery water. It has a sweet toffee scent and the stars are made of body butter which melts to leave you beautifully soft.

Golden Wonder bath bomb 200g

Shaped like a present, it is the perfect gift or Christmas themed bath bomb for the festive season. This feels really heavy when held in the hand and really peaks my interest on what’s inside and what colour it makes the water. Spoiler! It makes a gorgeous blue and green explosion and leaves the water blue. It has a fresh citrusy scent.

IMG_0681 (2)

Nevermind The Ballistics bath bomb 200g

With the Sex Pistol name reference this bath bomb had to be cool. It is a bomb that is dipped in a butter melt coating and has a orange scent thanks to the orange oils. This makes silky orange water and is very appealing to watch once it’s been placed in the tub.

Luxury Lush Pud bath bomb 200g

It is not Christmas without a Christmas pudding and I love all the colours in this aptly themed bath bomb. With a scent of lavender and Tonka it is a very calming smell, perfect for bedtime. It starts of foaming pink then explosions of different colours start appearing it’s amazing!leaving a rich pink water.

Christmas Sweater bath bomg 200g

This is such a creative idea for a bath bomb for Christmas, we all love the tacky Christmas jumpers which it is designed to look like. Offering a warm and spiced scent to make you feel toasty and relaxed. Perfect for the colder weather. This makes deep red and and orange foamy water.

Thundersnow bath bomb 200g

Looking just like it’s name ‘thunderstorm’ this fun mix of colours makes me intrigued to see the result in the water. With a peppermint and cocoa scent which is so heavenly, something that will give you a real pick me up. Making a explosion of blue and green water.

IMG_0685 (2)

I hope you liked this review, I can’t wait to get started using all these bombs, they are way too pretty to use mind!

Ballet Rain Face Stamp And Eyeliner Duo

I have noticed, this year especially that makeup trends and looks are becoming more artsy, bold and daring. Whether that be on the catwalk, films, makeup artists, bloggers or just seeing people day to day. This Christmas I have been loving the ‘tattoo stamp’ trend. Think of the gorgeous tattooed stars that the beautiful Kat Von D has adorned her face with. Now you can have that too without the pain or the commitment of it being there forever!.

IMG_0437 (2)

I picked up two of these face stamps from EBay from a brand I have never heard of before called ‘Ballet Rain’. You can find these here. They’re four designs to choose from (heart, star, moon and smiley face). I chose the heart and the star as it is what I’d mostly use.

IMG_0454 (2)

The great thing about these is that it is a double ended product. On one side is a liquid eyeliner with a firm tip to create a precise wing and the other side is the stamp design. Everything you need to create a graphic eye in minutes!. Super easy to wipe off at the end of the day/night just like any other regular liner.

IMG_0467 (2)

There is no need to put any liquid liner onto the stamps as they already come loaded with the most pigmented jet black liner. It’s super easy to get creative with, and cost just £2.98 each, such a bargain and I can’t wait to get starry eyed with this for my Christmas Day makeup!.

What has been your favourite ‘makeup trend’ this Christmas period?. Let me know it the comments below!
