Kat Von D Lock It Foundation And Concealer Review

Hello beauties, I am always on the search for the ‘perfect’ foundation and concealer (aren’t we all) and there’s a endless list of both high end and drugstore ones that I aim to try in the new year. The foundation and concealer I will be reviewing today is from Kat Von D’s Lock It range. I have tried this foundation before and actually hated it but that was when it was first released and before I knew about using oils as a base to create flawless looking foundation application. So this is attempt two and my findings.

Kat Von D Lock It foundation

Creamy and pigmented, ‘Lock-It’ foundation is the only long-wear liquid formula we can count on to create a perfect canvas. With one pump it will even out discolouration, stop shine and hide blemishes, offering amazing coverage that’s so long-wear you can go a full 24 hours without re-applying. Formulated with proprietary pigments plus an exclusive blend of siliconic elastomers which bind the formula, it will stay flawless, fade-free and transfer-proof. The bottle also features an innovative airless chamber design that prevents contamination, maintains rich consistency and ensures a fresh, precisely measured dose with every pump.

I love the edgy style of this packaging, I expect nothing less from rocker Kat Von D and she has hit the nail on the head when it comes to attractive packaging. The product comes in a sturdy, clear plastic bottle which is perfect for seeing how much product you have left and the colour of the foundation inside.

It has a handy push down lid that dispenses a decent size amount of product which saves product wastage and keeps everything sanitary (it also has a little lid for the dispenser to keep it fresh!). Based on the Kat Von D website this foundation carries a whopping 32 shades, with a amazing colour range to suit many skin tones. You get 30ml of product in the bottle which is standard for most foundations.

IMG_1438 (2)

Once pumped out onto the hand I was reminded how thick the consistency is, it won’t budge or run. As stated above I tried this with a really moisturising base as I have dry to normal skin and like a dewy finish. I started to apply like normal, first using my Real Techniques beauty sponge. This was a complete fail, the foundation was caking and not blending in at all so I moved on to my Real Techniques expert face brush. This seemed to make application a little easier but it dried so quick that blending was almost impossible. I was left with thick dry looking patches on my cheeks, forehead and nose area and that is never a good look.

I decided to try once more by mixing the foundation with a Strobe cream, I needed to use so much of the cream though to make it the perfect consistency for me that it sheered out the coverage to a light to medium which then rendered this ‘full coverage’ foundation useless!. I am so gutted that this didn’t work for me as I wanted to love it so much, so sadly this will be being put in the bin *cries*. This foundation costs £27. Maybe this foundation would work so much better with the Lock It hydration primer and on a oily skin!.

Kat Von D Lock It concealer

Redefining multi-tasking, this ‘Lock-It’ concealer créme is the first formula to bring together everything you’ve ever wanted in a concealer: super-creamy, blendable full coverage and true 24-hour wear. With a few smooth strokes, you can brighten under-eyes, cover blemishes, correct discoloration, neutralise redness, contour and highlight.

IMG_1436 (2)

Next is the Lock It concealer, with matching packaging and a thick plastic bottle, it definitely seems like you’re getting a lot of product for your money (6.25g) which is great since I hate paying out for a stindgy amount of concealer. I love the medium shaped doe foot applicator, it made it so easy to apply the concealer onto my under eye area and blemishes without any dragging. The best thing about this concealer is how thick it is, I do love a thick high coverage concealer and this one was a winner, although at the time of trying it I was very nervous that it would have been just as bad as the foundation but luckily it was the opposite.

This provided amazing coverage and blended out like a dream, leaving a gorgeous brightening effect under the eyes and covering all my blemishes. There was no need to set this with a powder as it dried down very quickly and didn’t crease at all throughout the day. This concealer comes in 20 shades and even has a pure white shade which I think is brilliant. It costs £20. I am so pleased with this and will definitely be buying again!

IMG_1439 (2)

I picked up shades ‘light 46 neutral’ which ended up being to dark for me and shade ‘L3 warm ‘ which looks dark because of the lightening but is actually the perfect shade for me and matches my Mac NC15 shade.

(Apologies for disgusting photo but I had to show how bad the foundation looked on my skin!)

Zoeva Matte Spectrum Eyeshadow Palette Review

Hello beauties, you may have noticed in my latest makeup look post that i have been enjoying using the Zoeva Matte Spectrum eyeshadow palette and wanted to post a full review of it!.

IMG_0842 (2)

A fifteen shade, matte eyeshadow palette.

A collection of fifteen eyeshadows, the Matte Spectrum Palette blends seamlessly for professional results. Inspired by the changing of seasons, this unique collection of highly pigmented colours offers endless possibilities for the creation of vibrant and distinctive looks with every use.

IMG_0851 (2)

Firstly I want to talk about the packaging, as expected it comes in a sleek matte flip box. Although it has a very basic design on the front, it does give a very Luxe and pricey look to it. Sometimes less can be more. I love the snazzy holographic lines against the black matte and even more so the design that’s in the inside. The palette itself is very sturdy.

IMG_0859 (2)

The palette boasts fifteen matte eyeshadows and look at how gorgeous they look in the pans (which are medium sized by the way!) I am slightly disappointed with the shade names as they are hard to remember. The shades included are

• MT010 – A pale cream.

• MT020 – Beige.

• MT030 – Medium brown.

• MT040 – A pale orange.

• MT050 – Orange.

• MT060 – Deep, dark orange.

• MT070 – Salmon.

• MT080 – Burnt orange toned red.

• MT090 – Deep red.

• MT100 – A purple toned light brown.

• MT110 – Charcoal.

• MT120 – Navy Blue.

• MT130 – Teal.

• MT140 – Green.

• MT150 – Dark, camo green.

One thing I was very sceptical about was the worry that this palette was going to be chalky as it is a matte palette, but I’m so pleased to say it isn’t at all. The colours are so easy to pick up on the brush with little to no fallout and are very pigmented. I love how easy these are to blend together and think that the colour selection is perfect for creating a multitude of great looks, bold or more natural, there’s something for everyone in this palette.

Benefit GALifornia Blush and Dandelion Twinkle Highlighter Review

Hello beauties, I was recently gifted some vouchers for Christmas from family members for Boots so thought it was the perfect chance to pick up two Benefit products I had been lusting after. I was in need of a new blush anyway and hey a girl can never have too many highlighters right?. Today’s review will be on the GALifornia Blush and the Dandelion Twinkle highlighter, both from Benefit cosmetics.

Benefit GALifornia blush

Benefit’s NEW GALifornia golden pink blusher is part sun, pure fun! It blends bright pink with shimmering gold, capturing the warm glow of California sunshine in a box. The signature GALifornia Dreamin’ scent features notes of pink grapefruit & vanilla. Comes complete with a custom rounded blush brush for soft, diffused application.

Includes rounded blush brush and mirror

IMG_0941 (2)

First off, I think it has to be said how gorgeous the packaging of this blush looks. With its groovy 70’s style design it is definitely easy on the eye. All of their box of powders in the collection come in a magnetic flip top box that contain 5.0g of product. On the underside of the lid you will find a cute sturdy mirror which is handy when traveling or on the go. Inside of the box you will find a small brush (I didn’t end up using it though) the bristles do feel quite scratchy so I don’t know how great this would be at picking up product. Once you lift up the brush you will see a gorgeous sun print on the front with gold dusting. The dusting is only slightly dusted on top so doesn’t carry on all through the blush. I am completely in love with the peachy pink tone of this. This blush does have a scent and it’s a slight fruity smell of peach. It gives such a gorgeous amount of colour and a natural healthy glow to my cheeks, it was really easy to apply with my Real Techniques blush brush and you don’t need much product to get the desired look. This is on the pricer side for a blush costing £24.50

Benefit Dandelion Twinkle powder highlighter

Get your glow on with dandelion twinkle superfine highlighting powder. Special baked technology delivers a strobing formula for a sheer, whisper-light texture. Wear it alone or on top of your favorite blush or powder and step into the dreamy spotlight.

Quick, easy strobing

Highlighting powder

Signature dandy daydream scent

Dandelion twinkle’s baked technology creates a superfine, whisper-light radiance…a little goes a long way. Dandelion twinkle provides the same number of uses as your other box o’ powders!

IMG_0952 (2)

With a more simplistic design this blush is the second version of ‘dandelion’ which is a blush. This one is their Twinkle highlight, this has a very faint smell of sweets which i find so appealing! The highlight itself is gorgeous champagne pink with very fine flecks of glitter, I am not normally a fan of ‘glittery’ highlights but this is so subtle. I found that the texture is so light and not at all powdery. The only problem I had with this highlight is that is gives too much of a natural look and if you know me then you know I love a blinding highlight. Although I did remedy this by spraying my highlight brush with some setting spray to make it more popping and it totally worked!. This blush costs £24.50 for 3.0g of product.

IMG_0966 (2)

All in all I loved both products and will be repurchasing! Especially the blush. They both look so beautiful on the skin, giving it a gorgeous healthy glow. I really want to try the Hoola bronzer next!.

From Black To Brown With Colourless Hair Colour Remover

Hello beauties!, I recently underwent a hair change from my black hair to a chocolate brown. I love having black hair but having light brown hair as my natural colour only meant one thing, God damn roots!. I decided I didn’t want to use any bleach as I obviously didn’t want to cause any damage to my hair, I have used a colour remover when I had black hair years ago from a brand called Colour B4 and it worked really well so decided this was my best option. However they didn’t have it in store at my local boots so I picked up one from the brand Colourless. Keep reading to see how I got on and my thoughts!.

IMG_0534 (2)

Removes permanent and semi- permanent hair colours. Contains 25% more active ingredients to help remove stubborn build-up and dark colours.

Removes Black, Reds, Browns and Dark Blondes.

  • Removes permanent and semi-permanent hair colours
  • Contains 25% more active ingredients to help remove stubborn build-up and dark colours
  • Ultra strong formula that removes Black, Reds, Browns and Dark Blondes
  • The simple way to wash away your unwanted colour and allow you to be the colour you desire

IMG_0543 (2)

Inside the rather snazzy looking holographic box is three bottles, Bottle A is a clear solution, bottle A is a cream and bottle C is a intense shampoo. You also get a instruction leaflet and a pair of gloves. I chose the Max effect box as I had stubborn black to remove but there is also a max condition version that will improve the condition of your hair. This product doesn’t contain any bleach or peroxide so is safer and less damaging, a  great alternative to going to the salon and paying a fortune when this costs £9.99 for a box that covered all my medium length hair.

Bottle A: Aqua, Sodium Oxymethylene Sulfoxylate, Parfum, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Polysorbate 80, Phenoxyethanol, Glycerin, Hexyl Cinnamal, Chlorphenesin, Benzyl Salicylate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde,
Geraniol, Linalool.

Bottle B: Aqua, Citric Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Glycerin, Polysorbate 80, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Hexyl Cinnamal, Chlorphenesin, Benzyl Salicylate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Sodium Chloride, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Geraniol, Linalool, Tetrasodium EDTA, CI 42090.

Bottle C: Aqua, Sodium Coco-Sulfate, Glycerin, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Bicarbonate , Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Chloride, Decyl Glucoside, PEG-12 Dimethicone , Citric Acid, Sodium Lauryl Glucose Carboxylate , Lauryl Glucoside, Chlorphenesin, Hexyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Salicylate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Geraniol, Sorbic Acid, CI 15985.

IMG_0545 (2)

How to use (from the instruction leaflet)

1.Pour bottle A into bottle B and Shake vigorously for 1 minute.

2. Apply to clean dry hair using entire content. Ensure the hair is saturated with lotion, use comb to ensure complete coverage. Cover hair in cling film and process for 45minutes.

3. Rinse lotion off with warm water for 5 minutes.

4. Apply half of bottle C and massage to lather like a shampoo for 1 minute. Now rinse for 5 minutes.

5. Apply the remainder of bottle C, massage to lather like shampoo for 1 minute. Now rinse for a further 5 minutes.

I have to mention how bad this solution smells, like roses mixed with rotten eggs, it truly is gross and it does linger in your hair after washing, it does however go after washing a few times. I also found the rinsing parts very tedious as I don’t have a shower and had to do it in the bath. Last time I did this however it was in the shower and it was very simple and easy!.

I am so pleased with the results, I took it back to such a lovely chocolate brown colour and I didn’t even need to dye my hair afterwards like I was expecting too!. I do recommend using a hair mask or a conditioner you know is high maintenance as my hair was left fairly dry, but this was nothing that my argon oil didn’t fix.
